  4.     Your ruthless put-down of radio talk hosts for organizing
  5. protest campaigns is a case of paranoid megalomania (RADIO, May
  6. 15). You are simply a pot calling a kettle black. Call-in-show
  7. hosts perform a vital service by keeping the feeling, if not the
  8. actuality, of democracy alive. You make it seem that the fervor
  9. originates with the broadcast hosts themselves, but they are only
  10. stirring emotions that exist within their listeners, most of whom
  11. are mad as hell about one thing or another.

  16.     The trouble with these shows is that virtually nobody phones
  17. in with an opposing viewpoint because there really isn't one. Even
  18. the folks who would never consider wearing a SAVE THE OTTER T shirt
  19. have not been praising Exxon for spilling millions of gallons of
  20. crude oil. Programs on the evils of Exxon or on the
  21. preposterousness of a 51% congressional pay raise have too obvious
  22. a bogeyman to provide any controversy or entertainment value.
